High School GED Preparation
The GED (General Education Development) Test measures a candidate's academic knowledge regardless of whether or not they have any direct experience with a traditional high school education. The most effective ways to prepare for the GED test include taking practice tests, reading preparation books, and attending prep classes.
The state of the California has more information on GED preparation at their website, located here
GED Prep Tests
One of the most effective ways to prepare for this test is to take at least one practice GED test. While online practice tests often provide feedback as soon as you
submit the test, hard copy or paper practice tests more closely mimic the actual GED test you will eventually take. The more practice you have with taking the GED test, t
he more familiar you will be with the style of the test. This will save valuable time so that you can focus on the content of the test. It may be useful to visit the official GED Testing ServiceĀ® Online Resource Materials, which includes sample questions by section.
GED Prep Books
If after taking a practice test you realize you may need additional review, several GED test prep books exist that can provide additional insight
into strategies to tackle each section of the test. These GED prep books often provide several practice tests, sometimes broken up into section, for you to
review key concepts. GED prep books also often provide extra tricks and tips for maximizing your score. GED prep books usually cost between $25 and $35 each. Also, did you know that
you can preview a GED book at the Google Books website? One of the best books is "Cracking the GED" by the Princeton review. A preview is available
here. Another good book is the "Complete GED Preparation Book", available here
GED Prep Classes
So you've taken a couple practice tests and read all the GED strategies, but you still can't quite get that top score you're looking for.
Well, at this point it might be time to consider an actual GED prep class. GED courses can be taken online or in person. Choose the type of GED prep
class that will help you be the most successful. Are you more of an individual and independent learner? Then an online prep course will probably work
best for you. Or are you more of a social learner who likes to discuss strategies and study with others? In this case, an in-person preparation class
is probably more your style. These GED prep courses are often taught at local adult education programs or community colleges. Some high school counselors
might also know where to find additional GED classes. While free GED online courses may be found, in-person GED prep classes usually cost between $75 and $150 each.
